I bought an extremely expensive set of earphones a while ago (the shure se530 PTH), and basically, thanks to the high quality earphones I have, the severe loss of quality on songs compressed down to 128/192 kb/sec is noticeable (I can't even listen to songs with just 128 kb/sec, with these earphones you can easily tell what portions of the original song is gone due to the compression, and the whole song just sucks, overall) So, basically, if possible, and in order to take advantage of my earphones, I like to rip/download songs with 900-1100 kb/sec (cd quality, basically...). However, it seems that no online retailer of any sort even offer songs that are beyond 256 kb/sec. In order for me to get songs at 360 kb/sec I have to use p2p. Period. It's a bit unfortunate, but I understand, since almost no one can tell the difference between a 192 kb/sec song and a 1000 kb/sec song using cheap earphones, which are the type of earphones that are used by almost everyone (looking at you, free iPod earphones!) I want to know, if it is indeed impossible for me to get cd-quality song purchases/downloads online, or through some other medium, other than actually purchasing the album (oftentimes I don't want the whole album, but rather a few specific songs)....
