What is the difference between a music CD I buy in the store and one that burn on my computer?

What is the difference between a music CD I buy in the store and one i burn on my computer? How do I burn a CD on my computer or what equipment/ software do I need to buy a CD like the one I buy in the store as far as format goes?

  1. Simple. The cd may have another format like .wav or .cda Burning cd's may be easier, and it's fun, cause you can pick the songs you like. Most computers come with cd burning tech already in, so you may not have to worry about that. Also, the song format of cds may be much smaller, as well as protected.
  2. They're the same. If your computer comes with a CD burner, and you have Windows Media Player or something similar that lets you burn CDs, it's as simple as that to burn something. Other than that, you have to buy software and a burner. Just run to Circuit City and ask them...my laptop came with everything I need to burn high quality CDs and DVDs, AND to print labels right on the disks...
  3. You need the song to burn- a computor that is capable of burning- or one that you plug in to your comp- a blank CD Normal cds use .WAV files and most songs u could buy are mp3s
  4. I believe there is a difference in the quality of the Cd's you can buy in stores for music recording. Some brands are better than others. Sony is a brand that was recommended to me by a music studio. Some others are not-so-good, apparently. If you are into serious music, get a recommendation from a music studio or a store/website that sells music equipment. You can burn a CD on your computer with the software that comes with Windows working with your CD/DVD drive. That's all I use. I do audio recording from my Roland keyboard through an interface to my computer which saves the composition as a WAV file. From there, the Windows XP media will burn it on a CD.
